Uber DJ Portable Stand when working in Clubs Bars or Home
So You made the transition from a tradition DJ to being a DJ that is now using a Laptop – But you found a new problem. Where do you put your laptop when there is not enough room in the DJ booth or what the bar / club calls a DJ booth.
Well Stanton is introducing what they call the UberStand – I really love what I see – This stand allows the Laptop to be setup on the top metal arms and has a movable shelf below for your external hard drives. This is a complete setup and comes complete with zippered bag and the unit fold flat. It is stated in their product description that this is made of Aircraft grade Aluminum and Stainless Steel. Plus as a bonus they include velcro straps to keep the wires and laptop in place. Best part this is listed to be only $79.99.
I will update you when I start to see this for sale.

If you are a DJ who is now using a laptop, you are no longer a DJ.
I have never seen a laptop accommodate vinyl.
March 31st, 2007 at 2:27 pmI have seen many DJ’s that enhance their performance with laptops – They not only use turntables – but also add in a laptop as well. Several of the various DJ programs for laptop can be controlled by the turntables. Take a look at http://www.scratchlive.net/about/ this will allow you to control your pc / laptop with vinyl.
Just remember no matter what you want to call that person playing the music (DJ, VJ, Music Programmer, etc…) What ever term you come up for them. A Laptop is still just a tool to use. If the person using the laptop doesn’t understand basic mixing and what songs blend and mix together no amount of software and artificial intelligence will help a poor music programmer. A bad set of music on a laptop or even a CD player or a turntable is still just that a bad set of music.
A DJ is an entertainer and performer that will help make the party, club, event, wedding, etc.. come alive with the right music how ever it is played.
A good DJ reads the crowd and plays what is needed when it is needed. Slows it down or speeds up the tempo.
April 2nd, 2007 at 11:15 pmAgreed. To say that a DJ using a laptop is no longer a DJ is a premature, uneducated judgement. If you’re saying that, then you’re discrediting many of the world’s DJ legends and pioneers such as Jazzy Jay, Cash Money, Jazzy Jeff, Spinna, Beat Junkies etc…the list goes on…these DJ’s, and millions aspiring to be like them, use the laptop as digital storage for their music. They still “CHOOSE” to use the turtable with the control vinyl in order to mix, beat-match, scratch, juggle and perform all the other traditional skills that a DJ must be able to do. If you’re talking about DJ’s that “ONLY” use a laptop, then you’ve got a semi-valid argument…but even still, if a DJ is using vinyl, cd’s, mp3’s, a tape-deck, an 8-track player or just a laptop….if the DJ is rockin’ that party….and all the transitions from song to song are done right, and the vibe is sensibly held together…then they’re doing their job well…period.
May 30th, 2007 at 9:43 amI’ve been dj’ing for 8+ years starting with vinyl and last year I decided to go digital. I use a lap top for dj’ing and use Rane Serato & Ableton live for my software.
Anyone who says using digital files as a medium to play tunes needs to open there eyes up and look around.. everything is turning digital! The future is now- and if you don’t learn to move with the times you’ll be left in the dust..
Plus you can do sooo much more than with vinyl like re-edits on the fly, cue points, loops for short songs, time warping, ect..
USE RANE SERATO- IT’S THE BEST!
on another note- I am looking at purchasing this stand and have been doing research and someone said they have to use zip ties to keep it from falling over.. anyone else hear about this. They have photos of it as well..
check out the document @ http://www.djdeals.com/stantonUBERSTAND.htm
I don’t want to purchase it if thats the case, normally I’m not a big fan of stanton
Go with what the forums tell you about the product if that is how you feel about Stanton.
I had to save the best for last…….I guess that you haven’t ever had the chance to watch som of the video’s on djing. Since all those technics have been done for many of years with vinyl. Even back in the disco era they were used just by mixing and looping the sounds together. I still can outdo my son with vinyl than he can with the same music on his laptop.
