A lot of people during this recession, dream of starting their own business.
We have a small list of questions where, your answers will help determine if this small business venture is for you, or it will give you some kind of idea of where you should spend more time in your planning.

Are you ready to spend the time, money and resources needed to get your business up and running.

First.. you have to ask yourself, what kind of business do you want.

Second… What kind of products or services will your business provide.

Three…. at this time we have to ask ourselves again…. why are we starting this business?

Four… Now, what type people will my marketing target be.

Five… This brings you to the time of knowing how familiar you are with your business to ask….. Who will my competition be?

Six…. What am I going to do unique enough with my business ideas and products or services that I will provide.

Seven… How soon will I be able to provide the products or services.

Eight… Will I have enough money to get my business up and running?

Nine…. If I financed the company…. how long will it take before my business starts to see a profit?

Ten… Will my business need a loan?

Eleven… How much will I need to know about my services and products, to keep them priced as compared to my competition?

Twelve… What decisions will I need to make on marketing the business?

Thirteen… Will I need to set up a legal structure for my business?

Fourteen….. What will the management of my business be?

Fifteen… In what type of location or where will my business be housed?

Sixteen… How many of employees will it take to start up?

Seventeen…. What type of suppliers will I need to keep in contact with for me to keep my business going?

Eighteen… What kinds of insurances will I need for my own protection?

Nineteen…. What do I have to do to make sure that I am paying all the taxes correctly?

Thank you for reading this, and I hope that it helped in some kind of way to give you an idea on what you need to start your own business.

Thank you and keep on reading.

Today I was just looking at a program on T.V. which led me to believe if today’s music makers are DJ’s or are just Gadgeteers.

As DJ’s, we always looked for the best products to use, but all it seems to say is “Look at the Gadgets!”

Just for the sake of some of the DJ’s out there, let’s go down somewhat of the path of the Basic DJ.
First we just started out with one turntable: but playing long songs songs was out of the question. Then we had a choice of using just a pair of turntables. This led us to our first gadget: the mixer, which allowed us to blend two records together so they seemed like one.

Then along came the 8 track player, it made the dj’s job a little bit lighter but it didn’t last very long.

Then came the cassette tape. Some said that they said that this gadget would follow the way of the 8 track tape, but they were wrong. it changed the music industry and made it easy for everyone to listen to their favorite albums while walking around. they even came out with a cassette deck that would read the blank spots on the tapes, so this made it easy for the dj to get to the song that he needed. This made the life of a DJ a lot lighter in weight versing the heavy weight of the record. In size, instead of being 12 inches, they were just only 4 inches.

Next….We had this gadget, which was placed ion front of the DJ booth or used just around the dance floor. Yes…. I’m talking about all the Spotlights, Spinning balls, Pulsating strobes and anything else that we can add to make the dance experience out to be one of the best to get people up and dancing. Now we have the new gadgets that are smaller and brighter, and are called L.E.D. ’s. LED stands for Light Emitting Diodes.

With these new gadgets, we have been able to use more of them and not have to worry about all of the HEAT made by a lot of the older lighting effects.
With these we can light up the whole hall to make it a memorible experience. This is done by these lights at the pillars of the hall in the colors of the bridal party.
then there is other lighting gadgets that allow us to accent the ceiling or the walls with snow flakes or even stars. Even now we have Professional lights that allow us to project the wedding couples names on the main wall. It even allows us to use it for company events where their logo can be show on a big screen or wall.

And then….. To talk about our Music. We are in an ever changing and fast paced computer& midi & deck controller music nightmare of gadgets.
This includes all the different formats of music: cd’s, mini disc’s, mp3’s, mp4’s, midi controlled…… and who knows how many other different decks and controllers that can be used along with all of the programs that are there to make our life a little easier with all of the GADGETS.

So now ….. are we a MASTER OF GADGET control or are we …. THE DJ.

I think that I am the DJ …… and I don’t care what my wife says about ” HOW MANY NEW GADGETS DO I HAVE TO HAVE THIS TIME ……”

Thank you and keep on reading.

While watching today’s news, I came across a very interesting article. It showed that the “SESAME STREET” site on YouTube, was hacked into.
What they did was replace the fun loving puppets with some really hard core porn.
It wasn’t up for very log, but long enough to make it to the news. The YouTube problem was soon removed.

So this got me to thinking about my own website.
CAN IT BE HACKED AND OTHER PICTURES BE POSTED?

So now is the reason that I checked my website and my links to YouTube, just to see if anything changed from when I placed it on the site.

Now would be a GREAT time to checkout your own site. This would also be a great time to make those long over due updates or changes that you have been wanting to make to your website.

The BOTTOM LINE is …….. if SESAME STREET can be hacked….. who says that you can’t!

Thank you and keep on reading!

Warning: Division by zero in /home/jffdj/public_html/wp-content/plugins/tla_80505.php on line 407

Life has many unfounded rules and conundrums such as
1) Am I still healthy
2) Should I make bookings way into the future
3) What happens if I broke my leg?

Well! I can’t tell you anything about life’s mysteries, but, I may be able to take some of the guesswork out of our electronic and digital life, as we know it.

#1 Your laptop and other digital storage devices will always wait till ONE day after the warranty runs out. Even if you get the EXTENDED warranty, the one that allows you to use your devices for that much longer.
Now I know why they have you send your warranty ONLINE…….. so they can set the COUNTDOWN TILL FAILURE ALARM.

#2 Now is the time to check it out, because, while in a hurry……… and your saying to yourself……… PLEASE DON’T FAIL ME NOW! Murphy’s Law always happens when you need that device to be at it’s best! Our ultimate lifeline to the outside world, the cell phone, goes into a black-screen …….or setting up to do a job….. and the ever persistent WINDOWS UPDATES comes as your ready to shut your laptop down.

#3 Now this is the one that I like OR HATE the best……. this happens when you playback IMPORTANT phone calls only. The message goes….. Like you can call me back at ssp-789-sl98. I will be be home at ssk o’clock. I KNOW THOSE CALLS! REAL WELL!

#4 Why do they have BLACK FRIDAY SALES……. or is this another name for “YOU JUST MISSED THE LAST ONE OF THOSE……. Those guys just bought it!
Another way of getting rid of older equipment to make way for new is by saying “WHILE SUPPLIES LAST!”

#5 “I swear that I had entered the WARRENTY CODE! ……. or did I accidentally place an “o” instead of a “O” or even when we hurry and place a “l” instead of the “1″.

#6 This one seems to always happen to me, just right after you spend $1000 on a new piece of equipment …….. and the newer one …… for the same price….. and some features that I wanted….. just went on sale for the same price….. just after you started to use the NEW ONE!

#7 The lost slip or sales receipt ends up in the I JUST HAD IT HERE SYNDROM. This one comes around when you are trying to get that GREAT REFUND CHECK………. So don’t forget to take the end tab that has the model# …… along with a good copy of the receipt …. stapled to a 3″ by 5″ card that has a legible printing of your name, address, phone#, cell phone#,so you could be reached, your e-mail address, and the name and model# of the product. ……. By this time I start to wonder if it really was worth all of this for the extra $50 off by mail?

I hope that this has brought it all in order for you…….. if not…… you are not alone….. I and others are right there with you!

Thank you and keep on reading!

To those of you that want to hook their laptop to their mixer are really not paying attention to what they are asking.

I get a lot of requests for this subject…… which brings me to the simple QUESTION of “HOW DID YOU HOOK YOUR TURNTABLE TO YOUR MIXER…….. HOW DID YOU HOOK THE CD PLAYER TO THE MIXER…….. HOW DID YOU ATTACH YOUR iPOD TO THE MIXER………. NOW THE NEXT ONE SHOULD BE A NO BRAINER………. how do you hook up your laptop! By a cable from the headphone jack to the mixer.

Was that just simple enough……….. but if you are looking to hook up you headphones, controller, or other items will require you to purchase extra pieces of equipment which is available by going to your local Guitar Center and talk to one of the specialists which can help you find the right type of hoop-up you will need for what you want to do. Most of these devices start out at around $100 dollars and go up in price from there.

So …….. now you know how to hook it up………. now go out and have some fun!

Thank you and keep on reading.

Warning: Division by zero in /home/jffdj/public_html/wp-content/plugins/tla_80505.php on line 407

Are you like some of us that has our mixer, laptop, etc., break down when you need it the most.
That’s right…. our favorite player went down and we are burning mad about it.
So we get our player…….drop it off at the repair center……..and hope for the best.

That’s right……A lot of us get really mad about our favorite player going down!

When we are mad….. We forget one of the basic things that we should do before we send any of our equipment out for repair.

This next scenario prepares us for the reason of what to do.

So we get our player…….. drop it of at the repair center…… and hope for the best. They always tell you that it will take about two weeks.

Now, The time has passed and you go to get your equipment………..”ONLY TO BE DISAPPOINTED!”

When they hand you the player back…….. You have to ask yourself…….. IS THIS MINE….. As you look at it….. it has a few screws missing and a few scratches on the front that never was there before.

So what is your options to do next…… complain to the repair center about the missing parts …. Or even the SCRATCHES.
The repair center claims that it wasn’t their fault and that you should take the problem up with U.P.S. …. it had to be in their shipping.

SO NOW…….WHAT SHOULD YOU HAVE DONE, instead of being really mad about it ……… YOU should have taken a few pictures. Yes PICTURES….. just to show when we get our equipment back ………this is one of the easiest ways to prove that we are right and we need some action taken.

We all carry one of these things with us all the time but actually don’t use them to the fullest of their abilities……. this item is our phone…. today, almost all cell phones come with cameras, so always take a few pics.. Now you will have some kind of proof that it wasn’t you that brought it in in that bad of shape.

With all of the new technology today….. you can use that PHONE for more than just phone calls.

So now you know what to do when they say “IT WASN’T ME!”

P.S. In this day of having to have insurance on everything……. we can use it to take a pic of a situation you may come up against when you think that you may be blamed for some kind of damage that you didn’t do.

Thank you and keep on reading.

It is now the time to learn about LED’s and how they can be used for different things that we use as a DJ.

I know that a lot of you have just bought a lot of your new stage lighting using LED’s.
But you are now getting to use them for up-lighting around the hall since these lights don’t generate any type of heat that could burn anyone including kids that may come over and touch the lights.

We know that a lot of kids like to follow lights and sometimes play with them. This is one thing that you no longer have to worry about with the new LED lights.

These lights stay cool even if you keep them on all night long. So when you go to pack them away, you don’t have to wait for them to cool down.

So now as a DJ, how would you like to take your LED experience to the next level.

Your now saying, what also can I do with LED lights that I am not doing already.

Well for the nest step in DJ lighting comes the LED SUIT.

Yes I did say suit! I was impressed with it that I had to share it with you.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZSldyNCI10&feature=related

Copy and paste the line on youtube to watch.

Let me have your comments about this product and let me know if you would like to be the next BRIGHT lighting at your next Gig.

Thank you and keep on reading.

Vestax VCI-300 USB MIDI DJ Controller

Vestax and Serato have joined forces with the Vestax VCI-300 USB MIDI DJ Controller.
Sharing their technology and compiled feedback from Pro DJ’s and users from around the world, they have created a dedicated DJ USB MIDI / Audio system and software offering absolute control.

The VCI-300 is a dedicated USB MIDI controller for the included Serato DJ software. It also comes with a built in audio interface with standard 4in/4out and headphone connection, which means all you need for DJing is the VCI-300, a laptop and a set of headphones.

New features such as the Emergency Thru Switch offers an option of using the VCI-300 with the provided ITCH software or without the computer connected if you simply want to play music from your external CD or MP3 player. Another is the new weight reduced JOG wheel and the adjustable JOG wheel torque mechanism to avoid vibration from low frequency feedback. WANT TO BE A DJ = VCI-300, Computer and Headphones!

Features

High Resolution Control
The VCI-300 can control more than 90 parameters and functions of the included Serato software with high resolution MIDI signals sent via USB. The pulse resolution of the JOG wheel and pitch control fader is 4 times higher than the VCI-100 and provides precise control of each function. The pitch control fader also shares the same high quality fader parts of the input fader for advanced operability.

Superb Audio Characteristic
The built-in audio interface carries an Audio Codec IC with superb audio characteristic, generated by a delta-sigma modulation 24 bit stereo D/A-A/D converter. Audio connection includes 1 stereo input, 1 MIC input and 2 stereo output (Master L/R, Monitor L/R).

Level Indication
A 12 level LED L/R indicator is set in the center of the top panel to monitor sound levels.

File Control
Audio files in the software library can be easily selected and controlled with the CRATES / FILES / BROWSE key and the cursor switch inherited from the VCM-100.

Emergency Thru Switch
The Emergency Thru Switch located on the rear panel is a countermeasure where you can use the VCI-300 with the provided ITCH software or without the computer connected if you simply want to play music from your external CD or MP3 player. The ITCH software reads music from your iTunes library or the Serato library you use for Scratch LIVE, making it the perfect device for recreational or professional DJ’s.

Adjustable Jog Wheel Toque
The torque of each JOG wheel can be adjusted to prevent them from moving from low frequency feedback and altering the pitch when using the VCI-300 in such places like clubs.

Fader Curve Control
The fader curve of each fader can be adjusted to the preferred characteristics for long mixes, scratching and any other style.

Available USB Port

Please note

The above is minimum requirement to run ITCH. We recommend you use a higher spec computer where possible. If you have a particularly large library, you will benefit from having more RAM.

Update ITCH to 1.0.5 when using 64bit version OS.

Your computer must meet the necessary system requirement written above to operate ITCH correctly. It is recommended to use a computer with advanced specifications to gain best performance and when using in venues.

The VCI-300 does not operate with AMD Athlon/Athlon64,Turion/Turion64 CPU powered computers.

This is a little different for me. I just went and placed an item that I want for my laptop. I know that the list price seems a little high at $799 but is cheap compared to buying a lot of separate items.

I was so astounded by how much that this controller has to offer.

But I can’t use it on my computer! I seem to have an AMD powered CPU.

Other controllers coming. I did this so some of the up and coming dj’s or some of the Pro dj’s check all of the details out before you just go out and buy one of these and then find out that you either go and take it back and find out that a lot of places don’t want it back since it is a electronic device and once opened, YOU BOUGHT IT! Or you could spend more money and get a new laptop, but check out the specs again……….it doesn’t say compatible with Windows 7!!!!!!!

Well there it is, my blog for today. Keep on watching this coming week for more and cheaper controllers.

Thank you and keep on reading.

Today in our life, our music and the new styles are getting to be more and more popular.

Some people are finding out newer and more interesting ways of doing our job.

Whether you keep on going the old school route of mixing, scratching and figuring out some of our best overlays, to make an instrument out of themselves. Or look at the newer more modern laptop DJ, that incorporates controllers, mixer and a computer to make an unending beat for a dance song.
